#1. Green Tea

Green tea is packed with catechins (plant compounds with antioxidant properties) and naturally occurring fluoride.  Studies suggest that green tea contains compounds that inhibit the bacteria and acid responsible for tooth decay. Also, the polyphenols (potent plant antioxidants) give green tea its immunity-boosting effects, which might help you avoid getting sick.

To maximize the benefits of green tea, pour almost-boiling water over a tea bag and steep for a minute or two. You can add a little lemon and honey to blunt green tea’s natural bitterness — but don’t add milk, as its proteins bind to the polyphenols, making them ineffective.

#2. Yogurt and Milk

You probably know that milk and other dairy products are good for your bones, but eating dairy products may also have several nutritional benefits for your mouth. A study discovered that a higher intake of calcium from milk and other dairy products was linked to a lower risk of gum infection. Calcium also maintains your teeth’s structure, and the “good” bacteria in yogurt may suppress “bad” bacteria that can lead to tooth loss.

#3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon and canned light tuna, could benefit your gums. In a study, when adults with gum inflammation that can lead to tooth loss took a 300-mg omega-3 supplement daily for 12 weeks as part of their treatment, had less inflammation.

So make sure you get more omega-3s in your diet by eating more fatty fish, such as salmon. The American Heart Association recommends eating two servings per week of omega-3-rich fish.
